Quickbooks Desktop Sync Error - "There is an invalid reference to a parent "X" in the Bills list"

Modified on Mon, 5 Jun, 2023 at 9:47 AM

This error message occurs when running a sync between Quadient AP and QuickBooks Desktop. The error message means that the Zero-rated Tax Code entered in SmartSync Manager is incorrect. The full error message is 'There is an invalid reference to a parent "X" in the Bills list. QuickBooks error message: Invalid argument. The specified record does not exist in the list.'

How to resolve this sync error

On the server where QuickBooks Desktop and SmartSync are installed, open SmartSync Manager. Please note that you may need your IT administrator's help to access your server. In the Integration tab, locate the Zero-rate Tax Code field.

In the Zero-rated Tax Code field enter the correct code, and press Save.

You can find the Zero-rated Tax Code in QuickBooks Desktop if you are unsure of the correct code. In QuickBooks, click Lists and select the Sales Tax Code List.

A popup menu will open with the various Sales Tax Codes. Using the below example, the correct Zero-rated Sales Tax code is Z.
